Whitley Bay

Northumbria School of English is situated on the sea front at Whitley Bay, a lively seaside town on the North East coast, only 25 minutes by Metro train from Newcastle upon Tyne, home of two of the region’s prestigious universities, the University of Newcastle and Northumbria University. This stretch of the coastline has award winning sandy beaches at Whitley Bay and at neighbouring Cullercoats and Tynemouth.

The famous lighthouse on St. Mary’s Island in Whitley Bay is a delightful attraction for both locals and visitors alike, hosting exhibitions and activities as well as being an important nature reserve.

People come to the beach to walk, jog, train for the world-famous Great North Run half marathon, explore rock pools, fly kites and even to make Hollywood movies.

Whitley Bay has a good selection of interesting shops, a theatre, an excellent library which you can join, numerous sports clubs, a local football team and a variety of bars, cafés and restaurants.
